The Scales aren't moving

I don't understand, the scales aren't moving. I seem to be stuck right were i started. I feel like i'm doing a good job but i haven't been rewarded by the scales. This is very frustrating. I keep chugging along and hope to see a better readout but its just not there. What should I do?

I'm so sorry you're frustrated! The only thing you can do is keep chugging along. It will move eventually. This is good practice for when you're a at goal and you have to keep chugging along anyway, with the scale not moving!

aw im sorry you are frustrated! I hate when the scale doesnt move, but you really need to find ways to see your progress or know you are doing well without verification from the scale. sure, the end result is to lose weight, but what about inches? hvae you measured yourself? have you eaten on plan? reward yoruself! anyone complimented you? reward yourself! there are so many reasons why the scale could have stayed the same (water, sodium, clothes, TOM, etc.) and that is why the scale shouldnt be the end all, be all because it really just tells part of the story. hang in there, keep going, and you will see results.

I agree with hanlie and heather ... if you're on plan and eating well and moving your body, the scales *will* move. Sometimes it just takes a little time. Sometimes other measures move faster. Are you feeling better? Noticing your clothes fitting better?

Give the scale time. If you're on track, it will move.

Hang in there, and keep up the good work!

Ahhh, the dreaded plateau.I'm on the program and in it, he gives lots of ways to break plateaus. (incidentally if you click on "testimonials", mine is the first one.

First the reason why we reach plateaus is because your body is used to the food you're eating and the exercise you're doing. If you're doing the same thing, day in and day out, your body sees this as the 'norm' instead of excess and you won't lose. So you have to throw your body off track with food or exercise. This is not a gimmick but rather a strategy.

Of course the best way is to change up your exercise. Do something different and/or longer or both. Or you could do it by changing your type of calories (food) and eat something different - some type of yummy, fatty food. This probably sounds like not-so-good advice but it is effective in 'shocking' your body so to speak.

Your body recognizes a habit after 11 days so after 11 days, you should do something (exercise and/or food change) to throw your body off. Your body sees this change as something new (thus not the 'norm') and continues burning fat.

Look at it this way...if you're obese but you're eating like a healthy person for a long time (salads etc.) and you're exercising like a skinny, healthy person does - then you're body THINKS you're already a skinny, healthy person and that you've reached your goal (or ideal weight) and will just maintain. But in the eyes of an obese person, it is a plateau going nowhere. So your body thinks you have arrived but in reality, you haven't so you've got to fool your body by changing your exercising and eating for a couple of days and send the signals that "NO, you are NOT at your desired weight so keep burning."

The same premise is taught here at
Fat Loss 4 Idiots. Check it out. I've been toying with the idea of trying this but I'm still on the BFFM program. (mainly cuz I love lifting weights)

Don't get down over this, you CAN do something about this.

Blessings,
Carol

I checked the code twice but the entire post is a link. Don't know how to fix it. Anyway, if you click at the top of the hilighted link, you'll get the Burn the Fat site and if you click on the bottom on Fat Loss 4 Idiots, you'll get to that page.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and giving me a Congrats on going to church. I am sure that the scales will move soon.
For me, my body retains a ton of water. Is there any way that you need to drink even more water. I noticed you have some motivational tips about water on the side of your blog. That is very cool.

I know how frustrating this can be. When you are having doubt the best thing you can do is track your calories and make sure you drink enough water. I've found that if I drop my calories too low, the scale won't budge so its possible you aren't eating enough. Hang in there, it will move soon!

Don't get down on yourself!! Sometimes mixing it up a bit helps. Eating more on one day, exercising a bit more--it could help jumpstart your metabolism.

IT WILL COME OFF!! Keep positive.

You've been given great advice. Definitely start taking measurements by inches. It's so important to look at the complete picture and not focus on the scale. I'd recommend starting some light hand weights or resistance bands as an introductory strength training routine. This will help change up your routine. Also, for your walks if you add twenty second/30 second (maybe every 5 or 6 minutes) speed sessions into your walk, the intensity will maximize your workout.

This is perfectly normal. Keep your head up and charging forward!

Everyone's said it all already. We know it's very frustrating when you're doing things right, but the scale doesn't reward you. I hope you can focus on other NSVs (non scale victories) for the time being to boost your motivation.. the scale will move eventually! Keep on going girl.

yep! I agree! Also, I sympathize. I've been struggling with my own lack of losing recently, and people have been saying the same things to me, as well...

It's hard, god knows it is... we want *something* to show for all the effort that we put in, but humans are biological creatures, and biology is about the most freaked up science out there. Sometimes this works and sometimes that works, and sometimes nothing does, and no one really knows why.

Good luck... You already know it won't get better going back to old habits, so we just have to keep working at the new ones.
